Dog friendly castles and beautiful gardens

Pembroke Castle

This castle is in the pretty town of Pembroke and boasts an incredible amount of fascinating history. It was the birthplace of Henry VI and is an interesting place to visit all year round. The castle welcomes well-behaved dogs on leads and has plenty of outside space to explore with wonderful views over Pembroke and out across the countryside.

Carew Castle

Situated on the most beautiful lake, this castle ruin is a fantastic place to go for a stroll with your dog. The loop walk around the lake from the castle is perfect for a gentle evening stroll with magical views of the castle reflected in the glassy water.

Picton Castle and Gardens

This picturesque spot is set in 40 acres of stunning woodlands and walled gardens where dogs are welcomed to explore with their owners. With guided tours, a natural maze and endless history there is something for everyone here to enjoy with your dog in tow. There is a café, plenty of facilities and shady spots to make sure your dog is hydrated and cool in the summer heat.

Dog-Friendly Beaches in Pembrokeshire
Pembrokeshire has a large number of beaches, 51 to be precise, and a significant amount welcome dogs all year round. Be aware that during peak season there are dog restrictions during the day for dogs and certain parts of the beach are designated as dog-free areas.

Manorbier Beach

Endlessly pretty beach with a magical castle (also dog-friendly and with a cafe!) which looks out to sea.

Barafundle Bay and the Stackpole Estate

Particularly great for beautiful walks around both lakes and beaches where dogs are welcomed everywhere you go. With sheltered swimming and a blissful absence of cafes, cars and pubs (bar the fabulous Stackpole Inn in the village!).

Freshwater West Beach

This is THE place to spoil your dog. The beach expands off into the distance and for those dogs with endless energy and a serious need to run then nothing quite beats Fresh Water West and all the space it provides.

Broad Haven South Beach

This pretty, sheltered cove is perfect for early morning and evening walks – beware in the summer months as it can get incredibly busy with families, swimmers and holidaymakers during the day!

Marloes Beach

This long stretch of beach fits the same mould as Freshwater West with its great expansive space for dogs to go wild and stretch their legs!

Dog restrictions on Pembrokeshire Beaches

Through the Summer months, many of the beaches in Pembrokeshire have restrictions for dogs. These beaches have either got designated sections of the beach for dogs or don't allow dogs during certain times of the day. The following beaches with these are:

Dale, Broad Haven North, Poppit Sands, Whitesands, Amroth Beach & Promenade, Saundersfoot & Promenade, Newgale Beach & Promenade, Lydstep, Tenby North, Tenby Harbour Beach & Tenby Castle Beach.

'Tenby South Beach is our favourite as we can get the train to Penally and walk through the sand dunes to the beach from the station! It's usually much quieter at the Penally end of South Beach and more popular for dog walkers.'
